Nintendo Won’t Show Up On E3 2013: Reasons Revealed

With the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) show now fast approaching; pre-conferences will be coming to town days ahead with major companies such as Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo giving hints about their latest wares and gaming innovations. Nintendo, however, choose to lie-low and give out a smaller presentation in private with the distributors and the media. This means no massive presentation for the company with focus confined only to software.

This came as a surprise as the company had been talking a lot about its Legend of Zelda title recently. This could be attributed to weaker sales of its Wii U. These smaller events will be focused on the company’s software line-up intended for the U.S. market. In lieu of the keynote livestream, Nintendo Direct streams will be utilized to do streaming of news to all and sundry.

This could be a business opportunity loss particularly in terms of promotion but Nintendo is taking the risk in favor of US-based software. Sony and Microsoft are set to announce their much-rumored video game consoles Playstation 4 and next-gen Xbox (rumored “Xbox Infinity“), respectively during the event which will be held in Los Angeles. Microsoft is expected to continue its Xbox event (May 21) talk about the upcoming Xbox console with the added feature of upcoming blockbuster games.
